Second Hike/Walk reflection
Another hike I took was with Aleszu Bajak, a senior data reporter for the USA Today. We walked around the Shaker Lakes Nature Center with a range of activities from talking about the professional journalism community to bird watching. I really enjoyed this hike and really liked Mr. Bajak's job, essentially combining the statistics/ data science industries and journalism/news industries into one. I participated in a data science competition at Case Western Reserve University in my sophomore year of high school with a few friends and placed in the competition. This competition got me interested in data science and statistics, an interest which I hold to this day. In addition to data science, I became extremely interested in journalism, after reading many articles over the past two years about conflicts in the middle east, and the historical background for the many conflicts in the middle east. It was really interesting to hear Mr. Bajak's story, growing up with his dad being a front-line reporter, reporting in areas such as rebel guerilla-controlled territory in Colombia. I learned a lot from this hike, much about the journalism industry though I felt a lot could be reflected in life. One important thing in journalism is information, and the gathering of knowledge to build a story. Much of this information though comes from people or municipalities, whether it be via online survey or through a municipality. I felt that this was very similar to school, and taught me lessons about the importance of visiting teachers and professors, and even the importance of talking to people and reaching out as many times if you demonstrate interest people will do whatever they can do to help you. All in all, I felt that this was a very valuable experience that has helped me to shape my beliefs and even my college plans and major. Attached below is a photo from the birdwatching.

I am enjoying reading how you are making connections across various experiences and your interviews.
