Second Hike/Walk reflection

Another hike I took was with Aleszu Bajak, a senior data reporter for the USA Today. We walked around the Shaker Lakes Nature Center with a range of activities from talking about the professional journalism community to bird watching. I really enjoyed this hike and really liked Mr. Bajak's job, essentially combining the statistics/ data science industries and journalism/news industries into one. I participated in a data science competition at Case Western Reserve University in my sophomore year of high school with a few friends and placed in the competition. This competition got me interested in data science and statistics, an interest which I hold to this day. In addition to data science, I became extremely interested in journalism, after reading many articles over the past two years about conflicts in the middle east, and the historical background for the many conflicts in the middle east. It was really interesting to hear Mr. Bajak's story, growing up with his dad being a f...

First Hike Reflection

One of the hikes I took was with a software developer named Ben who works on the augmented reality team at Facebook. I enjoyed this hike and got to learn a lot about the day-to-day life of someone working in a big tech job, as well as getting a window into what it is like to work at a big tech company. It was really interesting to hear about the journey taken to end up at Facebook, from college experiences to classes taken in college. During this hike, I got to understand more about augmented and virtual reality which both are some of my interests after taking the Augmented Reality intensive last year. It was fascinating to learn about what the future of augmented and virtual reality looks like as well as how it is ...

Over the next few weeks I plan on journeying through Ohio, and see all that it has to offer, taking hikes all throughout the Northeast Ohio area. I wanted to complete this project for multiple reasons, the first being that I have lived in Cleveland my entire life yet felt I had a vey limited picture of the beauty of Ohio's nature. In addition to this, I am taking a trip with NOLS over the summer where I will be backpacking and rafting through Utah and though this would be a good preparation for this endeavor. I plan on hiking through parks and woods on day trips, between 2 to 4 hours. Throughout my life, I have been to nature centers and the occasional hike, but never anything like this before. By the end of my project I hope to have learned about the nature in Ohio while also learning valuable life lessons along the way from different people I take along with me. One important thing I hope to learn from these hikes are both hiking skills that will be necessary for my trip this sum...
