First Hike Reflection
One of the hikes I took was with a software developer named Ben who works on the augmented reality team at Facebook. I enjoyed this hike and got to learn a lot about the day-to-day life of someone working in a big tech job, as well as getting a window into what it is like to work at a big tech company. One of the most important things that I took away from this interview and hike was the importance of a skill that makes one stand out in a completive environment, as well as why and how it is important to focus on the fine pieces of a project to culminate to a larger whole. It was really interesting to hear about the journey taken to end up at Facebook, from college experiences to classes taken in college. During this hike, I got to understand more about augmented and virtual reality which both are some of my interests after taking the Augmented Reality intensive last year. It was fascinating to learn about what the future of augmented and virtual reality looks like as well as how it is produced and scaled in a professional environment. One specific thing that I learned about was the difference between lidar sensors and cameras and their applications and effectiveness in products. I also learned about the importance of having a basic understanding of coding due to the many applications it has across many industries which have convinced me to take coding classes in college. In addition to our discussions about augmented reality and virtual reality technologies, we also talked about a shared interest in backpacking. I felt that it was really valuable to hear Ben's experiences with backpacking both individually and on college trips, as I am taking a backpacking trip this summer. All in all, I felt this experience was extremely valuable and gave me a great insight into an industry of interest. Attached bellow is an image from this hike.

I appreciate the juxtaposition of walking in nature/taking in the natural world, and and communicating with different people about a variety of different things. Wonder in the end if/how the two may blend into one?
